PALATABILITAS PUCUK DAN DAUN TEBU SEBAGAI PAKAN SAPI
Abstract
Sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) is a plant that is cultivated in Indonesia, both cultivated by smallholder plantations and large plantations. The purpose of this study was to estimate the palatability of sugarcane shoots and leaves as cattle feed. The research materials used were sugarcane shoots, sugarcane leaves, and field grass. This study uses an experimental method. The variables observed included feed ingredients of sugarcane shoots, sugarcane leaves and field grass which were eaten by livestock first, feed ingredients that ran out faster, and the length of time cows laid their heads in the feed space between sugarcane shoots, sugarcane leaves and field grass. And the difference in the average dry matter consumption per head per minute from sugarcane shoots, sugarcane leaves compared with field grass as standard feed given as much as one kilogram each for every six cows.
The average yield of sugarcane shoots was 18.611 grams DM/head/minute, while the average value of sugarcane leaves was 12.976 grams DM/head/minute. From these average results, it can be concluded that sugarcane shoots are consumed more because sugarcane shoots have a relatively high total digestibility, and there is quite a lot of nutrient content, the appearance of sugarcane shoots is tempting for cows and because there is a sweet smell and product. There are two main groups and derivatives produced from sugar cane, namely plantation limah and sugar industry waste.
